Electric hair removal

Electrolysis is an effective technique for permanently removing hair. A fine needle is used to apply current to the hair follicle, which destroys the hair and prevents it from growing back. Because hair is worked on one by one, multiple treatments are needed to achieve the desired result.

Who is this treatment suitable for?

This treatment is suitable for anyone with excessive facial hair, especially if laser is not an option due to light, blond or grey hair. Electrolysis is also safe during pregnancy, but if you are not feeling well, it is better to reschedule the appointment. Avoid direct sunlight as long as the skin is red after the treatment.

After the treatment, the skin may be red and slightly swollen. Sometimes small wounds with scabs develop. Our specialist will give you personal advice on the right products to support recovery. You may use make-up to camouflage the skin, but avoid swimming, sauna and intense heat for the first 24 hours.

FAQs

Below you will find the most frequently asked questions about electric hair removal:

When should you not use electric hair removal?

Electrolysis is not recommended during pregnancy, in case of certain skin diseases such as eczema or psoriasis, in case of open wounds or infections, or in case of active skin inflammation. People with pacemakers or other medical implants are also advised to seek advice from a doctor beforehand.

What technique is used for electrical hair removal at Cryon?

At Cryon we use the Apilus, an advanced device that sends a precise electrical current to the hair follicles via a thin needle. This current disrupts the hair follicle, preventing the hair from growing. The treatment is fast, efficient and safe, suitable for both fine and thick hair. Multiple sessions are usually necessary, as hair is in different growth phases. The Apilus ensures a comfortable treatment with long-lasting, permanent results.

How many treatments do I need before all hair stays away?

Usually 6 to 12 treatments are needed, depending on the treated area and hair growth. This is because hair is in different growth phases and not all hairs can be treated at the same time. Sometimes more or less treatments are needed.

Is electric hair removal painful? And does it numb the skin?

Electric hair removal can be slightly uncomfortable or unpleasant, but with the use of the Apilus device this is much less than with the old technique. The pain is usually bearable. We do not use anesthesia and it is not possible to numb the skin with a cream, because the hairs will then become too soft.

When can you go out in the sun again after electrolysis?

After electrolysis, it is important to avoid exposing your skin to direct sunlight for at least 24 to 48 hours. Your skin will be temporarily more sensitive and can burn more easily. Always use a sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin, even after this period. It is best to avoid sun exposure until your skin has fully recovered.

Which products should I not use after electrolysis?

After electrolysis, it is important to avoid aggressive products such as scrubs, exfoliants, alcohol-based toners and retinol. These can irritate the skin. It is also not recommended to apply self-tanners, perfumes or strong scented products to the treated skin. It is best to give the skin a rest for the first 24 to 48 hours after the treatment and use mild, soothing products.
