Fatty bumps on the face often occur on the forehead or around the nose. These are the somewhat oilier parts of the face, which makes it easier for fatty bumps to develop here. They are usually caused by damage to the skin, which leads to an overproduction of sebum by the sebaceous glands. Fatty bumps appear in many people around the age of 40 and can occur in both men and women.
Causes of fatty lumps
There are several factors that contribute to the development of fatty lumps:
- Skin damage: Irritation or wounds can cause the skin to produce excessive sebum.
- Aging: As the skin ages, the chance of fatty lumps increases.
- Sun exposure: Long-term exposure to UV rays can cause fatty lumps. That's why we recommend protecting your skin with a day cream with SPF.
Can I squeeze a fatty lump myself?
Squeezing or removing a fatty lump yourself is not recommended and often not possible. This can damage the skin and cause scarring. We therefore advise to always have a fatty lump removed by a professional.
The treatment at Cryon
At Cryon, we remove fatty lumps with a simple coagulation treatment. We use a needle that is electrified to carefully burn away the fatty lump. After the treatment, a small scab is formed, which falls off by itself. It is important that you do not remove this scab yourself, so that the wound can heal nicely.
Important note
Cryon specialists are not trained to diagnose the nature of a fatty lump (benign or malignant). If you are unsure about the nature of the fatty lump, please contact your GP or dermatologist before treatment.
